CHILDHOOD
Jessica Drew is born to parents Jonathan and Miriam Drew, geneticists who were funded by and thus worked for Herbert Wyndham – aka, the High Evolutionary. And, through him, the pair also worked for Hydra, with Jonathan aware of this, and Miriam not. The Drews live in a secluded lab atop Mount Wundagore, Jess raised around High Evolutionary’s New Men – including her bovine nanny, Bova.

After an accident while still in the womb, Jonathan experiments on Jessica during her childhood, and when she is ten years old, Miriam finds out. She confronts her husband, who strikes her. Fearing for her mother’s life, Jessica’s powers fully manifest for the first time, and she fires a venom blast directly at her father. It exhausts her, and in her unconscious state, she is put into stasis, only to awaken decades later at the physical age of 17 – and directly into the arms of Hydra.

EARLY DAYS
Hydra manipulates her, leading her to believe they are a force for good in the world. After years of training as a spy directly under the tutelage of the Taskmaster, Jess is sent on her first assignment: Kill Nick Fury.

During her encounter with Fury, hands around his neck, Jessica bears witness to the horrific crimes of Hydra via security footage. It gives her a glimpse of the truth, and it’s enough for her to abandon all she knows – taking off on her own, hiding out in London.

After some time, several weeks of loneliness as a pariah, an encounter with Morgan Le Fay, and extremely unsure of her place in this world – or what this world even is – Jessica is offered a palm reading by a mysterious man. He shortly reveals himself as the wizard named Magnus. He says he has the answers to her questions, claiming that some of them, however, await her in America. Eager to learn, the pair move to Los Angeles the next day.

During her years in America, Magnus briefly becomes her mentor, before Jessica later becomes a bounty hunter. She gets her license to practise as a private investigator, and develops close relationships with Nick Fury, a select handful of X-Men, and her first best friend Lindsay McCabe. They move to San Francisco together. She becomes Morgan Le Fay’s nemesis, discovering in the process that she has her own connection to the demon, Chthon. Jessica saves the life of Carol Danvers in their first meeting, she’s offered a space on the Avengers, but turns them down – valuing her independence and freedom to rebel too dearly. She finds connection. She finds her place in this world.

In a final encounter with Morgan Le Fay, Jessica loses her life – her soul doomed to wander the astral plane. Saved by the Avengers, she comes back without her powers. A normal human. Over time, these powers flicker in and out of existence, abilities available to her for mere seconds to minutes.

After a while, still working as a private investigator, Jessica and Lindsay move to Madripoor – coincidentally, at the same time as Wolverine, who is then going by his moniker of Patch. The women set up a PI office in Lowtown, and Jess returns to bounty hunting on the side.

A couple years later, Jessica mentors the third Spider-Woman, Mattie Franklin, moving to New York in the process. When Mattie goes missing a while later, Jessica teams up with Jessica Jones and Ben Urich to find her.

INVASION OF THE BODYSNATCHERS
Unfortunately for Jessica, Hydra has set their sights on her once more – sending an agent to beat her up in her home, before offering the deal of a lifetime: Have her powers restored in full, if she returns to working for Hydra. Refuse, and die. Jessica turns to Nick Fury for help, who tells her to agree to their terms, and work for S.H.I.E.L.D as their double agent. Jess has no choice but to agree.

Hydra were not the only ones to turn their attention to Jessica; a Skrull Empress named Veranke has decided to impersonate Jess to enact her plan – silently invade, replacing the citizens of Earth with their Skrull duplicates.

While Jessica is unconscious having her powers restored by Hydra, Veranke strikes, using this as her opportunity to abduct Jess and replace her with herself. Unbeknownst to Nick Fury, the team of New Avengers “Jessica” is soon to join as an establishing member, and even a majority of those within Hydra, the Secret Invasion of Earth has begun.

RETURN
After over a year of deceits, betrayals and deaths, the real Jessica Drew, alongside several other heroes, are saved from Veranke’s spaceship. While the others receive a warm welcome home – Jess does not. Only initially receiving love from Carol Danvers. Many are aware it wasn’t her who committed Veranke’s crimes, but they can’t help but be traumatised by her very face. Jessica feels ostracised once more.

First, she returns to London to hide, to be alone. However, it doesn’t take long for a woman named Abigail Brand to find her, offering Jess a place at S.W.O.R.D; Her first assignment? Hunt and eliminate rogue Skrulls that continue to hide out on Earth, starting with a familiar place: Madripoor.

A handful of days pass during her hunt, and after nearly getting herself beaten to death, help arrives in the form of some familiar faces. Captain Marvel, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Captain America (Bucky edition!), Ronin, and Mockingbird. She’s not alone; she has friends, people who love and care. And – as Logan reminds her – a home. Jessica officially joins the Avengers, for the first time completely as herself.
